Wesak Full Moon Poya Day

 Today I am going to give you a brief overview of the next great Vesak Poya day.  Buddhists prepare for this in advance.

 It is customary to hoist the Buddhist flag in every house on Vesak Poya day.  Houses and roads are also adorned with ropes and skeletons.  The temples and monasteries are also adorned with Gok decorative ornaments and Buddhist flags and it is the custom of many Buddhists to perform various Pinkams on Vesak day.  Principled Buddhists do not forget to celebrate Poya Day on Vesak.

The Vesak festival, which celebrates the birth of the Supreme Buddha, the three festivals of Enlightenment and Parinirvana, has a long history.  There is evidence that Vesak was celebrated in ancient India as well.

Holding dansals is a significant tradition on Vesak day.  The ancient Buddhist kings also distributed food and clothing to the people on Vesak day and held dansals.  Even today, it is common to see rural youth gathering to hold soft drink dansals.  The most popular Pinkam offering among Buddhists.  It is not the custom of a dansala to give to those who cannot afford it  Vesak Dansals are held for all levels of recipients.

 Some devotees use Vesak days to donate food and other essentials to patients in hospitals, orphanages, nursing homes and the needy.Aloka Pooja is 🙏🙏🙏another part of the Vesak festival.  Not only Buddhist temples but every Buddhist house performs Aloka Pooja on the Vesak night for the Buddha and this Aloka Pooja is performed by lighting coconut oil lamps or Vesak lanterns. LAnother modern aspect of the Vesak festival is to wish parents, teachers and relatives the blessings of the Triple Gem by sending Vesak blessings to them.  Various rituals related to the Vesak festival have led to the development of Buddhist arts and crafts.

 A person who is not able to observe Sil frequently is interested in observing Pohewas even on Vesak Poya day.  Most Buddhists make arrangements to observe Sil on Vesak with the whole family.  Temples and monasteries are full of people who are full of devotion to the Buddha.

The Vesak Pantheon is a special feature of the festival which depicts Buddhist customs and Jataka stories.  Holding Jataka story art exhibitions has been a tradition since ancient times.  Viewing pandals allows one to learn Jataka stories etc. and to identify valuable virtues from them.

 Singing devotional songs is another part of the Vesak festival.  However, in the face of the recent Corona disaster, we are unable to celebrate Vesak this year.
