About my dream university 😀😀😀

 In 1893, the introduction of art into the curriculum of the Ceylon Technical College marked the beginning of the Government College of Fine Arts.  After the construction of the permanent buildings in 1902, the number of students gradually increased.  It was further developed and in 1933 the institute produced art teachers, artists, teachers of various arts and crafts, and artists required to serve in the art department.

The College of Fine Arts was established in October 1949 at Horton Place, Colombo (where the Faculty of Visual Arts is currently located).  In 1952, it established the North Indian Music and Kandyan Dance Division and was renamed the Government Institute of Fine Arts.  In 1953, the Colleges of Music and Dance were housed in the building at No. 21, Albert Crescent, Colombo.  Under the guidance of talented lecturers and the commitment of students from different parts of the island, the institute developed rapidly.

Among the artists who contributed to the development of the institution was the late JR Jayewardene, who served as the Ambassador of the Fine Arts Government, and to the Art Institute in general and the Art and Sculpture Department in particular.  D.  that.  Mr. Perera, the late Lionel Edirisinghe who did a great service to the music industry and Mr. Panibharatha who did a great service to the dance department should also be remembered.

 These three colleges, which revived and expanded the fine arts and allied arts in Sri Lanka over a period of several decades, were amalgamated into the University of Sri Lanka on May 1, 1974 into a university called the Institute of Aesthetic Studies.

According to the Act No. 16 of 1978, such institutions of higher learning were required to be affiliated to a university.  Accordingly, the Institute of Aesthetic Studies was made an affiliate of the University of Kelaniya from January 1, 1979.  Until then, the Government College of Dance and Ballet, the Government College of Music and the Government College of Art and Sculpture became the three academic divisions as follows.  Heads of Departments were appointed for the respective academic divisions instead of the Principals who had been on duty in the respective Colleges till then.

Division of Music Studies.

 The Horana Sripali Institute, owned by the late Wilmot A. Perera, was transferred to the University in 1979 and became the Horana Branch of the Institute of Aesthetic Studies.  The academic activities of the first and second year students were conducted there.  Later in January 1994 the Horana Branch was relocated to the present location of the University of the Visual and Performing Arts in Colombo and all academic activities at the Horana Branch were commenced at the Colombo Institute of Aesthetic Studies.  The two Departments of Dance and Music were located at No. 21, Albert Crescent, Colombo 07, and the Department of Art and Sculpture, No. 46, Horton Place, Colombo 07.  In addition, the Institute of Aesthetic Studies, located at No. 16 As de Jayasinghe Mawatha, Kalubowila, Kohuwela, which was maintained as a hostel of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in 2002, was handed over to the Institute of Aesthetic Studies as a solution to the shortage of lecture halls in the music and dance sections.

 2005 07 01 The Institute of Aesthetic Studies was upgraded to a full university status by the Gazette Notification No. 1400 24 dated 08.07.2005.  The University of Fine Arts consists of the following three faculties and departments.

The University of the Visual and Performing Arts is the only university in Sri Lanka to offer a four-year special degree program in aesthetic subjects based on the practical basics of Dance, Dance, Music, Art and Sculpture and other related related arts. i'm very proud about i'm student of the that university😀😀😀.
