Something about my hometown😁😁😁

                                               My hometown is matara😋😋😋.Matara can be identified as a heritage area near the southern coast of Sri Lanka. There are a number of archeological and historical heritage sites representing the historical era. The city of Matara in particular is important in the history of Sri Lanka during the colonial era. Matara Fort, which was first ruled by the Portuguese during the Portuguese rule, was later taken over by the Dutch in 1645 and Matara functioned as a trading center for cinnamon and elephants. During this period a Dutch fort was also built in the city of Matara. Eventually the English came to power here and the architectural structures such as churches, forts and houses are still preserved as colonial heritage due to the Western influence on the area during that period. Also, a number of Buddhist temples with frescoes representing the Southern style of 19th century Sri Lanka are spread in this heritage region.

                           The city of Matara has the following major tourist attractions.

1. Veherahena Rajamaha Viharaya - Veherahena Poorvarama Rajamaha Viharaya is a Buddhist temple with a tunnel temple in Matara.

2. Matara Bodhi - Matara Bodhi is a sacred Bo tree located there.

3. Paravi Duwa - A small island with a Buddhist sacred area off the coast of Matara.

4. Matara Fort - This fort was built by the Portuguese in the year 1560.  Rebuilt in 1640 by the Dutch with the conquest of Galle.

5. Matara Clock Tower - The Matara Clock Tower, located in the center of the Matara Fort, is one of the oldest clock towers built by the Dutch in this country.  

 6 .Matara Star Fort - The Star Fort at Matara which was started by the Dutch in 1761 was completed in 1765.

7. Weragampita Raja Maha Viharaya - An ancient Buddhist site located in Matara.

         I'm always been very proud of my hometown because so many famous characters have sprung up in our city.😃😃😃
